Health screening
In an effort to identify and forestall early indications of prevalent illnesses, we have effectively coordinated health screening initiatives for over 1,000 individuals residing in the Asikuma-Odoben Brakwa district, Ghana. These comprehensive medical evaluations encompassed eye screenings, assessments of vascular and circulatory health, as well as measurements of body mass index. Additionally, we conducted lifestyle assessments including evaluations of diets and exercise habits.
Eye surgeries and treatments
In our commitment to prevent vision loss and address challenges associated with impaired vision, we partnered with a team of medical doctors from Our Lady of Grace Hospital in Asikuma. Together, we conducted free cataract removal eye surgeries for residents of the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa district and its surrounding areas. Also, treatments and lenses were offered to individuals with conditions such as glaucoma, hypermetropia, myopia, and presbyopia. Beneficiaries ranged from the young to the elderly, ensuring comprehensive eye care for all.
NHIS registration and renewal
In 2022 and 2023, we successfully sponsored over 1,000 individuals in our communities, facilitating the registration and renewal of their National Health Insurance Scheme cards. This initiative aimed to guarantee that everyone, especially the less privileged in our societies, has access to cost-free healthcare and reduced treatment expenses in Ghana.
Women Empowerment
Since its establishment, the Winifred Foundation has effectively assisted more than 500 women by providing resources (tools and materials) to initiate or expand their businesses. The foundation has also played a crucial role in empowering women with essential life skills. We have conducted training sessions, enabling individuals to acquire expertise in various fields, including wig making, soap and parazone production, dressmaking and pastries making. Our commitment extends to consistent financial support for others pursuing vocational training.
Financial Support
One of our key objectives is to alleviate unemployment rates in both our local communities and the nation of Ghana. To achieve this, we have supplied essential financial capital to more than 200 individuals, enabling them to initiate or expand their businesses. This support has been directed towards those with promising and innovative business ideas and plans, who lacked the necessary financial resources for execution. Our future endeavors aim to extend this assistance further, empowering more individuals to achieve financial independence, establish businesses and companies, and contribute to employment opportunities for others.
Educational Funding
Education remains a primary focus for us. Recognizing that some schools in our communities lack fundamental teaching and learning materials essential for creating conducive learning environments, we are dedicated to addressing this gap. Regularly, we contribute educational items, including textbooks, workbooks, sheets, storybooks, pens, pencils, crayons, and other essential tools to enhance the academic experience for children. Furthermore, we have committed to paying the full tuition fees for certain academically talented yet financially disadvantaged students, enabling them to pursue further education and strive for personal growth.
Donations
We regularly cloth and feed the orphans, needy and the poor in our communities.
Establishment of Wellness Clinic
The foundation partnered with Our Lady of Grace Hospital in Breman Asikuma to create a Wellness Clinic situated at the hospital entrance. This facility allows passersby to conveniently check their vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and sugar levels. Additionally, the clinic provides educational resources on healthy lifestyle choices.
